LAMFest Rally 22nd June 2014 – Elsecar Heritage Centre.
I think that its the 2nd time LAM Communication have run this event, and this year it was in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, and I wasn’t sure if I could come up with a better reason to go.
I arrived early, even though one of the good things about this venue is that there is plenty of parking, I had only been out of the Car a few seconds and I could smell the unmistakable smell of Coal Smoke, this meant only one thing to me, that something would be in Steam, not something I had come to a Radio Rally for, but great to be able to combine two hobbies in one !
There was already a queue outside in the bright sunshine, I wondered over to look at a ‘Saddle Tank Engine’ in Steam, while I waited. As soon as the doors opened a good door team got everyone in with no fuss.
The venue is bright and airy. There had not been the temptation to cram to much in.
I noted that Kenwood, ICOM and YAESU were all at the rally, with LAMs themselves having a great stall. Wondering round 99% of all the stalls were radio related and that was great to see. There was some very good quality goods to be had and some excellent bargains too.
I am not sure what the cost per stall was, but it would be nice to see this Rally get bigger. However that said if it was the same size next year it would be well worth the visit. They had some excellent quality items in the raffle (not that I won any). I think many congratulations need to go to the people at LAMs for this Rally, well organised, easy to get to, park and an excellent venue.
It was great to meet many of my friends that I have made in Amateur Radio in the short time I been evolved.
Not to miss out on the steam bits.
