Myself M0PJA, Denis M0USV and Mick 2EoMKE set off from Rotherham to activate SOTA Summit Black Hill. This the second time I have activated this summit. Taking the A635 out of Holmfirth, there are a couple of lay-bys which are easy to spot where the Pennine Way crosses the main road.
Following the path, up to the summit there some excellent views, normally that is,its was quite misty that day.
Arriving at the trig point, we separated out to setup our antennas, both Denis and I had chosen to take our FT-817s and Sotabeam antennas http://www.sotabeams.co.uk/
The conditions on top were far from ideal, low cloud, with visibility down to a few metres, then it would clear. The gnats on the top appeared to enjoy their meal of Radio Ham !!! We only operated 2m ssb of this activation, however we had plenty of contacts.
By 13:00 we had all eaten our lunch, so we packed up and headed off to Holmfirth for a much needed drink (pop) and some fish and chips.
