We are also used to rallying with our Caravan, rally sites are normally a field with a tap and a method or disposing of your toilet waste. There are a little more social that standard camp site and a lot more cost effective too.
So I was really pleased when searching the web that I could combine two of my favourite pastimes Camping and Amateur Radio this happened when I found the Amateur Radio Caravan and Camping Club – (ARCC) http://www.arcc.org.uk

We contacted them via email and received a quick friendly reply, (always a good sign in my book) giving use some more information and details of some Meets aka Rallies we could go to.

We turned up on our first rally with the Amateur Radio Caravan and Camping Club and they were a great group of people. Not being sure what I could put in the way of antennas I didn’t take much the first time, just a pro-whip for HF and a 2/70cms mag mount. What I should say at this point is if you partner is not into Amateur Radio, its not a problem and there other activities to join in (if you like) there is no pressure.

If you are like me and autocratically think boring at the thought of an AGM, you would be wrong – it was very well carried out and over in a little more that half an hour.

I was able to deploy my Linked Dipole, which covers 20m, 30m, 40m and 80m in the field and work some stations with my trusty FT-817 5w QRP. Made better still being in a field and having low noise conditions.

So you if camp at all in a Tent or Motorhome or Camper Van or Caravan, and enjoy Amateur Radio this is a group for you. If you partner and or children are not into Amateur Radio then no problem you be made welcome.
