A New venue this year for the RSGB Convention, with much improved lecture rooms, if you have not been to a Convention I would strongly urge you to give it a go. This year you could get a day ticket at £10.
Its not about old people with chains of office slapping each other on the back. Far from it, there is an excellent programme of talks on a range of subjects.
The first year I went as a 2E0 callsign and found that there were not may and even fewer M6 callsigns.
This means that the message is not getting across about just how good the event is. Okay there we some things I did not fully understand, but the people giving the lectures are only to happy I found to answer your questions, even if you think they are dumb.
The hobby is all about self learning, and this is a fantastic example Amateurs sharing what they know and love with other Amateurs.
One of the best Talks for me this year was the YOTA talk, I still don’t like the title Youngsters on the Air, and would prefer Young People, but I guess its an international thing. However it was great to see so many young people in the hobby and I would have given my right arm to go to Finland at there age ( or now come to think of it).
The other talk that was one of the best for me was the one from the Ham-Cambs team. These people are great fun, and very much enjoy what they do. There enthusiasm in infectious !
It would be a good resource to all Amateurs if the talks could be filmed and offered for sale ( for a fair price) to all. May be this is a job for the BATC ?
